At Economics and Business Administration, you work with all the central tasks in a company that are important for the company's competitiveness. The programme enables you to help companies optimize business processes, analyze key financial figures, handle and manage organizational changes, and develop strategies to enable a company to grow and be competitive. You acquire unique skills to make a difference in the business world.   

In the programme, you learn to manage complex, internal and external processes that can help small and medium-sized companies as well as large global corporations increase their competitiveness. 

You should choose Economics and Business Administration if you want to learn how to help companies across various industries in the business community create value financially, strategically, economically and organizationally.

You gain knowledge about e.g. organization, management, marketing, management accounting, financing, innovation, entrepreneurship and business models.

The teaching is a mix of lectures, exercises, project work, case work and collaboration with companies. 

You experience a close connection between the knowledge you gain during your studies and the practice out in the real world. This enables you to discover, analyze and deal with complex business issues in the business world.

During the project work, you and your fellow students work in groups and write projects on concrete business economics issues that are often based on specific companies. You typically solve the task in conjunction with a company. The topic could be, for example, to investigate how a manufacturer and supplier of concrete can introduce a targeted strategy that places more emphasis on innovative technology and sustainability.

With a Bachelor's degree, you can apply for a job when you have completed your studies. However, a Master's degree gives you the opportunity to specialize in one of the many business economics areas and thus take on more complex and specialized tasks after you graduate. 

It is ideal to continue studying in one of the following English-language Master¡¯s programmes: Business Data Science, Entrepreneurial Business Engineering, Finance, Innovation Management, International Business, and Marketing and Sales.

The first semester provides you with fundamental knowledge of economics and business administration as well as methods to explore key economic and business administration issues, including through problem-based project work.

The second semester links the external perspective on a company and its position in the national economy with how organisations operate in a societal, industrial, and internal context.

In the third semester, you will learn how a company can be managed from an economic perspective through financial and non-financial information. You will be introduced to a market-oriented approach to handling marketing decisions.

The fourth semester provides you with knowledge of how both large and small businesses are developed, as well as how companies operationally coordinate both internal and external activities. Furthermore, you will gain insight into how companies make decisions and how these decisions are related to developments in financial markets.

The fifth semester integrates several perspectives from the previous semesters into a strategic framework of understanding. You will gain in-depth knowledge of strategy and continue your learning with philosophy of science.

In the sixth semester, you have the opportunity to shape your bachelor's programme through elective courses where you can further specialise within the disciplines of economics and business administration. You conclude the bachelor's programme by writing a bachelor¡¯s project where you, either independently or in a group, explore a practical or theoretical problem within economics and business administration.

In the Bachelor of Science programme in Economics and Business Administration, you have the opportunity to study abroad. Most students choose to do this in the 4th or 5th semester. During the programme, your study activities at AAU are replaced by study activities at another university where Aalborg University Business School has several partner universities around the world.

If you choose to spend a semester abroad, you have the chance to experience a different teaching style and culture while expanding your network.

The teaching in the Bachelor of Science programme in Economics and Business Administration primarily consists of lectures, exercise sessions, group work and project work. A supportive learning environment ensures that you, individually and in teams, gradually strengthen your ability to build and bring together practical and theoretically anchored competences in reflexive ways.

All degree programmes at Aalborg University Business School (AAUBS) use the problem-based learning approach (PBL). This means that all educational activities aim to take authentic business problems as their point of departure by adopting case-based lectures and courses, inviting guest lectures, arranging company visits, and facilitating collaboration between students and companies.

Working with PBL ensures that you develop skills in identifying and analysing specific problems related to different areas of business knowledge, and enables you to develop your recommendations and solutions.?

In order to be admitted to the Bachelor's programme in Economics and Business Administration at Aalborg University, you need the following qualifications:

• Upper secondary school exam
• English B or an acceptable IELTS or TOEFL or Cambridge score
• Mathematics B
• History B or History of Ideas B or Contemporary History B or Social Studies B or International Economics B

Please note that A, B and C refer to the course level - not grades.

The programme has restricted admission. Thus, not all applicants who apply for admission within the prescribed deadline and meet the entry requirements are guaranteed admission to the programme.

In 2024 AAU offered 40 student places. Admission via quota 1 required a minimum grade point average of 5,9.

Quota 1

If you have a non-Danish degree that may be converted into a Danish GPA (grade points average), your application will also be assessed in Quota 1. For Quota 1 applicants, only the GPA of the upper secondary school certificate is assessed. Applicants are admitted on a competitive basis according to their GPA, so that the applicant with the highest GPA is admitted first and so on until all places are filled.

Quota 2

Qualified applicants in Quota 2 (20% of all student places) will be selected through an overall assessment based on:

• Grades in the specific entry requirements, i.e. English B, History B and Mathematics B
• Activities up to a maximum of 12 months.? Relevant professional work experience, and/or relevant education

Examples of relevant work experience

• Employment in the financial sector - in a bank, mortgage institution, insurance company, property trade etc.?
• Employment in sales, export, marketing, finance, HR etc.?

Examples of relevant education

• Subjects passed at bachelor degrees in social science and business economics
• Subjects passed at professional bachelor's degree within the mercantile field
• Subjects passed at business academy programmes within the mercantile field
• ?Subjects passed at mercantile education in finance, trade and economics

All activities must be documented. Activities up to a maximum of 12 months will be considered. If you are in doubt whether your activities will be taken into consideration, we advice that you submit documentation for all your activities, and the Admissions Office will select the activities that serve you the best.

The Bachelor of Science programme in Economics and Business Administration provides you with good job opportunities. Most Economics and Business Administration graduates are employed in private companies within trade, industry, or services, but some also find jobs in the public sector.

With a Bachelor¡¯s degree in Economics and Business Administration, you can, among other things:

• Handle organisational tasks
• Engage in budget planning and follow-up

If you choose to continue your studies in the Master's programme in Economics and Business Administration (MSc), you will gain specialised knowledge in the field of economics and business administration and can secure jobs in both the private and public sectors, such as:

Manager in areas such as planning, management, sales, PR and marketing, organisation, or finance. Typically, you will attain a managerial position after gaining several years of practical experience.

Since the master¡¯s programmes (MSc) target various employment areas, there is no clear job profile. Moreover, Economics and Business Administration graduates may start their own businesses.

In general, master¡¯s programmes graduates are considered highly flexible employees because they possess a high level of professional expertise, analytical skills, the ability to cross disciplinary boundaries, and can work both independently and collaboratively.
